Transportation Service

Helping Hands is looking for reliable transportation service drivers

Summary

Provide comfortable, safe and reliable door to door transportation services to medical appointments, personal appointments, shopping and social engagements, both locally as well as to out of town destinations. Volunteers receive reimbursement of $.40/km towards costs when using their own vehicles. For volunteers aged 21 or greater, agency vehicles may be available and for volunteers interested in providing wheelchair transportation, agency wheelchair vehicles are available.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Transport clients to pre-determined destinations, providing a door-to-door service
  • Maintain a safe, efficient and clean vehicle, either volunteer or Helping Hands vehicle
  • Ensure client safety by operating the vehicle within all rules of the road
  • Must ensure client confidentiality and privacy
  • Complete and submit transportation paperwork same day of service
  • Communicate with Client Care Coordinators changes or concerns regarding clients

Qualifications

  • Caring, friendly and patient attitude
  • Willingness and ability to take direction from staff
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment with multiple demands
  • High level of integrity and trust
  • Responsible and reliable, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Physical ability to assist someone in and out of a vehicle, assist people with mobility aids and lift light equipment
  • Proof of a minimum of $1,000,000 Liability Insurance if using volunteer vehicle
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of Volunteer Application Process

Required Skills

Position Summary:  To provide transportation to seniors and adults with disabilities to medical appointments, social outings and shopping. Location: Varies based on destination, may include local or long distance drives. Time Commitment:  This varies according to volunteer availability and client needs.  A minimum of one day per week is recommended for a minimum of one year.  May include additional planning meetings. Benefits: An opportunity to network with team members, clients and community organizations.
